Sh2-86/NGC 6820

Emission nebula Sharpless Sh2-86 (or NGC 6820) is a HII emission region located in the constellation Vulpecula, discovered by Albert Marth on 7 August 1864. The hydrogen gas is ionized by the blue, hot stars within open stellar cluster NGC 6823. The region is at a distance of about 6000 light-years. The complex contains dark dust structures, columns and so-called “Bok-globules” (small “elephant trunks”).

Sh2-86 is one of the faintest objects which I have imaged with my equipment so far. H-alpha and S[II] data are relatively faint, compared to data from other emission nebulae. Data using the O[III] filter show -with 10 minute exposure - almost no signal.
